- 1). Paint your walls a contemporary color. Grey, red, beige, tan, burnt orange and white are found in contemporary homes. Find a color that matches the decor in your bathroom and put it on the walls. If you have a round mirror or other round accessories, try something a little more daring and paint circles on your wall in coordinating colors. Stripes also create drama in a room.
- 2). Install or hang mirrors. If you have an open wall, you may want to install 3-foot sections to cover an entire wall. If that’s too dramatic for you, try hanging an interesting geometric pattern of small mirrors on one wall. If your bathroom is large enough, lean a full-length mirror against a wall.
- 3). Put tiles on your walls. If your counters are tile, you might like using the same pattern on your walls. To add some flair, try complementary tiles with a design. Another tile option is just putting them on one wall. This can give your bathroom a dramatic effect without costing as much as doing the entire room.
- 4). Hang a piece of artwork that coordinates with your contemporary style.
- 5). Install sconces to add warmth as well as decoration. Find a stencil that enhances your theme, such as a geometric border or a replica of a famous painting. Look for polished chrome pieces with matte oval or cylindrical globes.
- 6). Apply wallpaper. With a variety of colors and textures, wallpaper is an option. Look for a simple striped or geometric pattern to add interest.
- 7). Apply contemporary-inspired wall decals. Look for stencils with more than one overlay for added texture.
- 8). Hang wooden boxes for functionality and design. Arrange three or four boxes in a symmetrical pattern. Pair the boxes with a floating or glass shelf for a modern look. Another alternative is placing a long shelf along one wall for a dramatic effect. Line the shelf with towels, basket and candles for a pleasing variety.
- 9). Install a towel rack that matches the other fixtures in your bathroom. Polished chrome adds sleek chic.
