- 1). Paint the lampshades to match the colors throughout each room. For lamps with glass shades, use either transparent glass paint or acrylic paint. For paper and wood shades, try acrylic paints and water colors. For fabric shades, use water colors that seep into the fabric or acrylics that sit on the surface of the shades. You may also paint images and designs onto the lampshades. Use stencils to keep your images or any text on the lampshades as neat as possible.
- 2). Cover the lampshade in beads. Use either plastic or glass beads, and attach them to any type of lampshade. You may use beads of various colors to create a random or patterned mosaic, or simply use beads of one color or shades of the same color. Stick the beads onto the lampshade with heat-resistant glue. You may want to cover the entire shade or just place beads over seams on the lampshade.
- 3). Decoupage the lampshades with photographs or decals. Find photos or decals you want to include on the lampshade. You may choose things you like or things that match your room décor. Cut these pictures or decals out into desired shapes, and apply heat-resistant glue to the back of the picture and onto the lampshade. Stick the photo or decal onto the lampshade and apply spray clear polyurethane over the decoupage to prevent peeling and protect the images.
- 4). Trim the top, bottom, and any side seams on the lampshade with lace or beaded lace and borders. Attach the lace and borders with heat-resistant glue or fabric glue along the top and bottom of the lampshade. You may also place the lace and bordering materials over seams or along only the bottom of the lampshade.
