- A slide-in range slides in between your cabinets, and the sides of the unit are usually slightly curved. The stove top sits on the edges of the surrounding cabinets, so that it's slightly higher than the countertop. These models generally have a drawer for storage, and these units also have grooves along the sides, which are hidden by the surrounding cabinetry. The Kenmore slide-in units are sold under both the standard Kenmore and Kenmore Elite brands. These units are available in white, stainless steel, black and off-white. The gas version of this range has sealed burners, but you can buy the electric version with different types of burners, including coil and radiant or induction glass.
- Freestanding models do not require the support of cabinets and counters, and do not have grooves along the side, allowing you to place them anywhere you want. Kenmore sells its freestanding models under the Kenmore, Kenmore Pro and Kenmore Elite brands, and these units are available in either standard or self-cleaning models. Available colors include red, white, off-white, black, metallic and stainless steel. You can choose one- or two-oven models, in widths ranging from 24 to 40 inches. You have the choice between open or sealed gas burners, and from induction or radiant glass, or coil burners for the electric cooking ranges.
- While you can use slide-in ranges with your existing cabinetry, you must purchase custom cabinetry for drop-in units. These units drop into a false cabinet front, which makes the cooking range look like one of your cabinets. You also do not receive a storage drawer with these units. Kenmore only sells electric drop-in units, and these units are available in off-white, black or white. You can choose between coil or radiant glass surface burners.
