- 1). Shut off your heat pump if it is leaking water, but leave it running. Wait a few hours for the water level to decrease. Check the water level around the bottom of the heat pump. If you see a marked reduction of water, your heat pump is likely leaking. Contact a qualified pool technician.
- 2). Insert a test strip into the heat pump to check a sample of water for chlorine or bromine. A test strip allows you to determine the level of alkalinity or acidity of your pool. Look at the test strip. If you see a positive reading for sanitizer on the strip, your heat pump is leaking and must be repaired. If the test strip has a negative reading, your heat pump has harmless condensation and is fine.
- 3). Check the display on your pump if it is not working. Locate the main breaker at the power supply panel and make sure it is turned on. Check the disconnect switch located near the heat pump and make sure it is on as well. Refer to your heat pump's user guide if you are unsure the location of these devices.
- 4). Check your pump's display for a reading such as "Flo." Check the circulating pump and the strainer basket if you see such this reading. The strainer basket is located on the side of your pump's motor. Refer to your pump's manual if you unable to locate it. Make sure the strainer basket is positioned correctly to allow water to bypass the heat pump.
- 5). Raise the water temperature above 60 degrees Fahrenheit if your display shows an "Off" reading.
