Definition:
A synthetic form of oxytocin, a hormone that causes contractions of the uterus. It is given as an intravenous drip (IV) or an intramuscular injection (IM). It can be given to induce labor (induction of labor), augment (speed up labor) or help control uterine bleeding via postpartum hemorrhage.
