- 1). Clean the truck's window frame with warm, soapy water and a soft rag to remove all dirt and rust. Dry the surface with a clean, dry rag and then remove the old gasket. Replacing the gasket will ensure an effective seal for the new window; the old gasket could have cracks and tears from years of wear.
- 2). Place the new gasket around the perimeter of the window frame, with the slit side facing outward, and press the gasket down so that it fits tightly into the groove around the frame.
- 3). Apply a thin layer of sealant around the perimeter of the outer groove of the window frame. Spread a layer of petroleum jelly in the slit around the gasket. Press the nylon cord or string into the slit of the gasket. Run the cord completely around the inside of the frame groove, so that the two end pieces exit exiting in the bottom middle and hang down into the interior of the truck.
- 4). Place the glass into the window frame. Have one person sit inside the truck, supporting the glass from the inside as you position it into the window frame.
- 5). Have the person in the truck pull the nylon cords, bringing half of the gasket to the interior of the glass. Press the exterior half of the gasket to the outside of the glass.
- 6). Clean excess petroleum jelly carefully off the glass with glass cleaner and a rag.
