- 1). Pull the refrigerator out from the wall with the help of a friend. Place a plastic sheet on the floor with a bucket on top to catch any water run-off while changing the filter.
- 2). Locate the water line connected to the back of the appliance and the compartment that holds the filter cartridge.
- 3). Follow the water line to the shut-off valve, which is typically under the kitchen sink next to the two main shut-off valves. Turn the valve knob clockwise to stop the flow of water to the refrigerator.
- 4). Unscrew the filter compartment from the water line by turning the coupling counterclockwise. Unscrew the cap from the filter compartment by turning counterclockwise.
- 5). Remove the old filter and discard, then insert a new filter in the compartment. The filter simply slides into the compartment.
- 6). Reattach the cover and reconnect the water line to the filter compartment by turning the coupling clockwise. Make sure the rubber gasket inside the line is seated over the connection to the filter compartment. Tighten the connection with pliers or an adjustable wrench.
- 7). Turn on the water valve under the sink. Check the line connections to the filter compartment to ensure there are no leaks before sliding the refrigerator back into place against the wall.
