- 1). Recycle your CD player with the manufacturer. Sony, Panasonic, Samsung and Toshiba have recycling programs. Each will accept any CD player manufactured by them, and properly recycle or refurbish them. Many manufacturers that have recycling programs place recycle bins at major retail outlets. To find out where to find a recycle bin or send the product, see the manufacturer websites.
- 2). Recycle your CD player with a local electronics recycler. Most cities and mid-sized towns have recyclers that specialize in electronic equipment. Many universities and colleges maintain large recycling centers, too. To find an electronics recycler nearest you, visit the Environmental Protection Agency's directory of electronic recyclers.
- 3). Donate your CD player to a thrift store. Thrift store sell all types of used goods including electronic equipment. There are thrift operations, such as Goodwill and The Salvation Army, that use proceeds made from the sale of donated goods to benefit those in need. Many thrift stores place donation bins in front of many businesses, including gas stations and strip malls. Place your CD player in one of these donation bins, or drive to a local thrift store and drop off the CD player.
