- 1). Use moisture-enhancing shampoo and conditioner. There are several products available that are geared toward pampering dryness prone hair. Prepping your hair in this manner is a helpful first step in your hair care routine that will help reduce the dryness of natural hair.
- 2). Detangle your hair after washing and conditioning while it is still wet. It will be easier to evenly apply moisturizing products if your hair is not tangled or matted. Use a wide-toothed comb and work from the ends of your hair toward your scalp. It can be helpful to divide and pin your hair into four sections and concentrate on detangling a single section at a time.
- 3). Distribute moisturizer throughout your hair. You can use either a water-based moisturizer or oil like jojoba or shea butter. Place a quarter-sized amount of the product into your palms and rub your hands together. Distribute the product evenly through your tresses and then gently comb through your hair with a wide-toothed comb for further distribution. This process should be used daily to supply your hair with dryness-combating moisture.
