- 1). Unplug the electical cord to the washer and shut the water off by turning off the spigots at the wall where water is supplied to the washer. Place a large bucket or bowl behind the washing machine and remove the water hoses attached at the back of the washing machine. You may need to use pliers to remove them. Once you remove the hose ends, hold them upright until you are over the bucket and then place them in the bucket. This will catch any water that may be in the hoses. Now, disconnect the hoses from the wall and put the hoses to the side.
- 2). Place a towel on the ground to lay the washing machine on its front. Add pressure with your knee to the front of the dryer and pull the dryer forward, laying it on its front. Remove the screws that secure the back cabinet panel of the washer using a Phillips screwdriver. There will be a clamp around the power cord; loosen it. Remove the back of the panel and set it to the side.
- 3). Take a wrench and loosen the nut to the bracket of the motor, located under the bracket of the tub and above the motor. Loosen the belt by pushing the motor of the washer to the right. Slide the belt from the pulley and push the motor back to the left.
- 4). Remove the swag bars from the gear case by removing the bolts located underneath the gear case. There will be three bolts in all. Unscrew the bolts on the gear case securing the water pump. Use a wrench to remove the bolts. Notice the wig-wag that protrudes from the top of the case with white and red wires.
- 5). Rotate the gear case and pull the plunger located on the wig-wag. The wig-wag will slide out as you continue to turn. The gear case will have a spin clutch spring; remove it.
- 6). Remove the retaining bolt to the lower gear case and take out the sleeve. Loosen the other two retaining bolts. Locate the T-bearing found on top of the gear case. Now, look on the left side of the T-bearing to see the ball bearing key. Position the key over the hole to secure the ball bearing.
- 7). Remove the belt. You can pull the gear case out to make this easier. Slide the replacement belt in and fit the gear case back in the unit. Replace the retaining bolt that holds the case and tighten the bolts that mount the case.
- 8). Reconnect the three bolts that connect the gear case and swag bars. Replace the retaining bolts attaching the water pump to the gear case. Fit the new belt around the pulley, pump pulley, motor pulley and drive pulley. Push the motor back into position and tighten the bolts.
- 9). Put the rear panel back on the washer by replacing the screws; tighten the clamp over the power cord and set the washer back in the upright position. Reconnect the water hoses, turn the water supply back on and reconnect the washer to its power supply.
