- 1). Wash out and dry the detergent bottle thoroughly, then remove any labels from it. Place the cap back on the bottle.
- 2). Paint the bottle if you desire. It may take multiple layers to cover the plastic. Allow the paint to dry, then cover it with a layer of clear varnish.
- 3). Cut a hole out of the middle of the bottom of the bottle large enough to fit the cardboard paper towel roll.
- 4). Cover the top half of the bottle, excluding the cap, with any colored or pattered fabric you desire. This portion of fabric will serve as the shirt. Glue the fabric in place. Cover the bottom half of the bottle with a different fabric to serve as the pants or skirt and glue it in place. Cover the cap with flesh-toned fabric and glue it down.
- 5). Cut strands of yarn as long or short as you would like for hair. Glue the strands to the top of the cap. Glue buttons to the front of the cap for eyes, or use googly eyes if you desire. To create the rest of the puppet's face, either draw a mouth and nose with fabric paint, or cut out shapes from scraps of felt, and glue them onto the cap.
- 6). Add any extra decorations you would like to your puppet, then stick the paper towel roll into the hole you cut on the bottom of the bottle. Use the cardboard roll to hold up the puppet.
