- 1). Place the antenna in the highest possible location. If it is a rooftop antenna, orient the elements vertically rather than horizontally.
- 2). Connect one end of the coax to the antenna using the appropriate adapter.
- 3). Run the coax from the antenna to the CB base station.
- 4). Connect the coax to the output of the SWR meter using the male F-type to female PL259 adapter.
- 5). Connect the input of the SWR Meter to the CB base station using the short coax with PL259 connectors on both ends. The SWR meter measures the Standing Wave Ratio, and you want this as low as possible.
- 6). Adjust the physical length of the antenna elements until you reach the lowest reading on the SWR meter, if the antenna is adjustable, such as a rabbit ear antenna.
