- 1). Insert a shovel into the dirt next to the rock so the tip of it has gone into the soil.
- 2). Push the shovel deeper into the dirt with your foot, using your own body weight to force the shovel under the rock. Rocks deep enough in the soil that they can't be reached by a shovel should not affect your gardening or your lawn.
- 3). Pull the handle of the shovel toward you to use it as a lever. The shovel will disrupt the dirt and bring up the rock in seconds if the rock is not excessively heavy. Remove the rock by hand or move it with the shovel if it is small enough.
