- 1). Put on heavy work gloves and safety glasses before performing maintenance. Park the Snapper riding mower, remove the operator's key and apply the emergency brake on a solid surface clear of obstructions. Make sure the machine will not move while maintenance is being performed.
- 2). Lower the mower lift lever, and place the "Dial-A-Cut" knob at their lowest positions. This will enable enough access to remove the mower from the unit.
- 3). Push the Idler pulley tension arm forward (the spring-loaded arm at the forward, left side of the machine) to reduce mower belt tension, and unloop the belt from the Power Take Off pulley located to the rear of the machine.
- 4). Remove rear trailing arms at the rear of the mower by pulling the spring clips off with pliers. Remove the clevis pins holding the trailing arms, and let them droop from the machine.
- 5). Take the lift cable off the mower hook (located between and just to the rear of the front wheels), and allow the rear of the mower unit to rest on the ground.
- 6). Pull the spring-loaded lever (located between the front wheels) forward, and lift up on the hitch to remove the front of the mower unit. With the front wheels turned to the left, remove the mower unit from under the machine. This should allow full access to the mower belt and pulleys.
- 7). Remove the old mower belt, and replace with a new belt. Ensure that the flat side of the belt is towards the outside of the pulley route and that the belt routing is correct. It should run from the Right Arbor pulley, to the Left Arbor pulley and then to the Idler pulley.
- 8). Replace the Snapper mower unit under the riding chassis and reverse steps 3 to 6. With the Idler pulley tension arm forward, route the mower belt back around the Power Take Off pulley to complete the mower belt replacement.
