- 1). Position the mower on a flat and level surface before beginning work. Raise the front or rear of the mower, depending on the wheel to be repaired, and place a wood block under the end to raise it off the ground.
- 2). Examine the wheel to determine the necessary repairs to be done. Hold the wheel and turn it to check for resistance or to see if it is loose.
- 3). Place a wrench on the head of the wheel bolt on the inside of the mower deck and another wrench on the nut on the outside of the wheel connected to the wheel bolt. Hold the head of the bolt in place and turn the nut on the wheel bolt to tighten the wheel.
- 4). Apply a few drops of multipurpose lubricating oil to the bolt. Place the oil on the bolt in front and behind the wheel and turn the wheel several times to spread the oil.
- 5). Replace the wheel if it is worn, cracked or damaged. Remove the nut from the wheel bolt. Obtain a replacement wheel from a home, hardware or big box store. Place the new wheel on the wheel bolt making sure to install any washers in the same position on the bolt as they were removed. Tighten the nut and bolt with wrenches.
