When comparing the moral content of much of today's programming to that of the fifties and sixties, it becomes apparent that there has been a significant decline in media morality.
While some shows reflect a high moral standard, others are downright morally corrupt.
Implied nudity would never have been accepted twenty years ago.
some may argue about creative license.
It's possible that so much more creativity was involved with the production of programming which did not have the explicit sexuality and violence built into today's television programs and videos.
Fifties sitcoms like "I Love Lucy" and "I Remember Mama" provided wholesome entertainment and were written, produced, and were cast by highly creative individuals.
Sometime during the eighties, the networks began to include more programming with sexual and explicitly violent themes in an effort to compete with cable.
Perhaps this is why there has been a dumbing down of young people and a persistent desensitization of moral sensibilities.
We are seeing and hearing more and more sexual innuendos and are being increasingly subjected to horrific violence.
I believe we need to take a stand in favor of shows of high moral content.
Sexual tensions need to be downplayed on television and on cable and violence needs to be greatly softened.
The question is, how can we peaceably created change? Perhaps we can write the networks and encourage them to discontinue this moral degradation and give our financial support to those advertisers whose commercials appear on shows of high moral standards.
I believe that mental health issues such as depression and drug use are going to become much more severe due to the drugging of our minds via low level media standards.
Readers, do you have any ideas on how to effect peaceful change?
