- 1). Get ready to find the leak. Put on your bathing suit and some good, tight-fitting goggles. Seeing underwater is imperative to finding the leak.
- 2). Fill an eye dropper with the darkest food coloring you have on hand. Blue or red works best. To fill the dropper, place the tip inside the container of food coloring and squeeze the end. Let go to allow the dropper to fill.
- 3). Dive underwater and bring the eye dropper with you. Start looking for leaks first around areas that are more susceptible, such as places that have valves or pipes running through them or where you have underwater lights or connected ladders in the liner.
- 4). Squeeze the end of the eye dropper slightly to expel some of the food coloring. Make sure you're very close to the liner when you do this. Watch the food coloring. If you see it escape through a hole in the liner, you have found the leak.
- 5). Move all around your pool's liner to determine if there are other leaks, repeating the process above to determine if the food coloring escapes in other areas.
