How to Delegate Duties for a Wedding

    • 1). Ask the maid of honor to to be on call to help with any planning duties that come up, since she is the "right hand woman" to the bride. The exact duties that a bride delegates to her maid of the honor vary by the bride's needs. According to The Knot, the maid of honor is responsible for communicating with all the bridesmaids to let them know what is expected of them.

The maid of honor should also plan the bachelorette party and bridal shower, as well as keep track of all the gifts received at the shower. It is also her job to monitor the bride on the wedding day, acting as a go-between for the bride and the wedding vendors. During the ceremony, she needs to hold on to the groom's ring as well as holding the bride's flowers and arranging her train. The maid of honor also makes a toast at the reception and makes sure the bride has everything she needs during the reception.

    • 2). Tell the best man that he is responsible for helping the groom pick his wedding clothes and planning the bachelor party. The groom may want to have input about what kind of party he has, but the best man is in ultimately in charge. According to The Knot, he is also responsible for supervising the other groomsmen and making sure they are performing his duties.

The best man stands next to the groom during the ceremony and holds on to the bride's ring until it's time for the groom to put it on the bride's finger. At the reception, the best man should make the first toast. He also should decorate the car that the couple leaves the ceremony in, or he should be the one to drive them to their hotel or the airport after the reception.

    • 3). Choose the dresses and shoes that you want the bridesmaids to wear, and ask them to buy their own outfits in their own sizes. They also need to help the bride with pre-wedding tasks, such as choosing music for the reception or putting together flower arrangements. Bridesmaids need to attend the wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. On the day of the wedding, they need to help the maid on honor make sure that everything is running on schedule and run last-minute errands, if necessary. During the reception, bridesmaids need to socialize and make sure all the guests are enjoying themselves.

    • 4). Ask the best man to let the groomsmen know that they need to help with planning and organizing the bachelor party. They also need to attend the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner before the wedding. At the wedding, the groomsmen should act as ushers to lead guests to their seats. Groomsmen should provide information to any guests who need help, like directions to the reception site or suggestions for restaurants in the area. The groomsmen also escort bridesmaids into the reception.

    • 5). Ask the mothers of the bride and groom to help make the guest list and help scout out locations for the ceremony and reception. They may also help the bride choose her gown. The bride may also want her mother or both mothers to stay in contact with the wedding planner or other vendors to answer their questions and get updates on the planning. Generally, the parents of the groom will plan and pay for the rehearsal dinner, and the bride's parents will pay for some or all of the wedding itself, depending on what they can afford.
