Someone is turning the Big Five-O and it's your job to come up with the entertainment. Don't despair, as there are several ways you can turn that party into an affair to remember. This is a special birthday--one most people celebrate in a much bigger way than other birthdays. So, it's a safe bet the birthday honoree will remember this occasion for the rest of his life. Make it even more memorable with some unusual entertainment. - A variety of companies specialize in silly theatrics. We've all seen the amusing movie scenes where a police officer walks into a birthday party pretending to be very serious about responding to a call of an overly loud party. Suddenly, the music begins to rise and the "officer" goes into a sultry dance. These entertainment companies (Eastern Onion being the largest and best known) have offices and chapters throughout the United States offering everything from fake police officers to girls jumping out of cakes to singing telegrams.
- Another option is to select a character from the honoree's past, such as Elvis or The Blues Brothers, and find an impersonator. This kind of entertainment is memorable for several reasons. If the party attendees are contemporaries of the birthday person, these celebrity impersonators will bring back memories for them as well. An Elvis impersonator doing a few over-the-top songs with lyrics about turning 50 or The Blues Brothers performing a Saturday Night Live skit from back in the day will have everyone laughing and saying "remember when..."
- For an elegant and epicurean extravaganza, throw a wine and whiskey tasting where the beverages are 50 years old as well. A lovely 1950s Bordeaux or Madeira would be relatively inexpensive and can be found online at several rare wine outlets. "Whiskey Magazine" frequently has articles about how 50-year-old whiskeys take on deep, oaky flavors after spending so many decades in their casks; this makes them very suitable for after-dinner occasions. These items may be pricey, but when you factor them into the cost of hiring entertainment instead of beverage-tasting, you will most likely be able to swing it.
