Polished Stainless Exhaust Tips

    Where to Find Them

    • Polished stainless tips can be found in numerous places. If you want something OEM (original equipment manufacturer), then start by looking at the dealer that sells your make of car. If the dealer does not have what you are looking for, try an auto parts store like NAPA or Pep Boys or a muffler shop. If you want to purchase the tips online, eBay is a great place to find them. You can also go to large online vendors, such as Summit Racing, where they will have a large selection. Prices for stainless steel are generally higher than chrome, and in 2009 can range anywhere from $20 or $30 to hundreds of dollars depending on the type of car.

    Appearance

    • As opposed to a finish like brushed stainless steel, which has a more muted appearance, polished stainless steel has a brilliant finish. The finish is the result of the polishing process that the stainless steel goes through during the manufacturing process. It should be noted that stainless steel can turn different colors over time due to the heat that is produced by the exhaust system. The design of the opening, can be a slash cut or a straight up and down cut and can feature a sharp edge or a slick-looking bevel.

    Installation and Proper Care

    • Installing a set of exhaust tips is generally easy and can be done with either a screwdriver or a wrench. The tips are either screwed on with screws that go through the tip or they are bolted in with straps. You can also have the tips welded on by a shop for more permanent, professional installation. To care for the tips and ensure that they last a long time, clean them regularly and polish them with a high-quality stainless-steel metal polish.
