- 1). Bolt a slider bracket in its place on the block. Loosen the adjusting bolt in the slider. Mount the accessory to the bracket and the adjusting bolt. Route the belt around the appropriate pulleys.
- 2). Push the accessory away from the engine to tighten the belt. Tighten the adjusting bolt. Twist the belt between two accessory pulleys to check for tightness. It should twist 90 degrees. If it twists more, the belt is too loose. If it doesn't twist 90 degrees, the belt is too tight. Adjust the tension by loosening the adjusting bolt and moving it in or out a few centimeters.
- 3). Bolt the auto tensioner to the block using a socket. The pulley is attached to a spring-loaded arm. It will have a bolt in the center of the pulley, or it will have a square hole. To move the tensioner so that the belt can be installed, use a socket or the square nub on the end of the ratchet to push the pulley toward the engine. Route the belt around the pulleys, leaving the tensioner until last. Push the tensioner toward the engine and slide the belt over the tensioner. Let the tensioner pulley fall back into place to tension the belt.
