Some people who blog are not really blogging for profit as maybe they are not aware of some of the things you can do with a blog.

I had a website a few years ago and to keep updating it took all day, now with my blog I can do the same thing within a couple of minutes plus, with the right keyword research and SEO, it will rank higher than a website anyway.

The reason is simple, Google likes to see activity on a site, now a blog is updated everyday or so where as a website might be update once a month or even longer depending on the product or service.
There is also something else to consider and that is your time, you can update your blog in a matter of minutes where some websites take hours to make a simple change.
Your time can now be spent a lot better on other activities within your business.
You should also consider the cost, most blogs are very cheap to run, something like a few dollars each month, but a website could cost many more times that so you don't get into profit as quick as you could.
I'm not saying that websites are a bad thing; in fact they are great as long as they are used in the right context.
But if you are a small business owner or home business owner then having a blog could be far more profitable than a website.
