- 1). Scoop excess auto oil carefully off the upholstery with a spoon or the dull edge of a butter knife.
- 2). Cover the lingering oil with cornstarch or baking soda. These powders are absorbent products that help pull the remaining oil out of the fabric.
- 3). Leave the cornstarch or baking soda on the couch for 15 minutes. Remove the powder with a vacuum cleaner upholstery brush.
- 4). Add dry cleaning solvent to a white cloth until it's well-saturated. Blot the edge of the auto oil stain with the saturated cloth in a vigorous motion while working your way toward the center of the discoloration.
- 5). Continue adding dry cleaning solvent to the cloth and blotting the oil stain until you remove it from the couch.
- 6). Rinse the dry cleaning solvent off the upholstery with a clean cloth moistened in cool water. Pat the couch fabric dry with a towel.
