- 1). Identify what is causing the smell and remove it. If you cannot locate what is causing the smell, take your vehicle to a mechanic. If the dead animal is not removed, the scent cannot be removed.
- 2). Wash the outside of the vehicle. Combine soap with water in a bucket. Wash the exterior of the vehicle. Rinse the vehicle.
- 3). Wash the inside of the vehicle. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda onto the carpets and seats of the car. Allow it to sit in the vehicle for 10 minutes to absorb odor. Vacuum the carpets and seats. Clean the dashboards and steering wheel.
- 4). Spray an air or fabric neutralizer or deodorizer into the inside of the vehicle. Leave the doors or windows open and air out the vehicle as long as possible. Repeat the steps as needed until the smell is completely removed.
- 5). Place air fresheners in the vehicle to mask any remaining odors.
