- 1). Carefully open your iPod with the utility knife on a dust-free surface. You will need to open the iPod carefully, making sure not to break any of the hooks inside of the case that hold the shell together. Carefully open the shell on all sides and lay your iPod flat on the surface. You will see two flat wires connecting the two sides of the case. Unplug them very carefully, making note of where they were connected.
- 2). Remove the hard drive, which can be unplugged and laid aside. Using the Torx screwdrivers, disconnect the motherboard and set it aside carefully, making sure that no stray dust gets on it. You will see the clickwheel circuit board and the battery connector underneath it. Remove the battery connection, and move aside the clickwheel circuit board. You will now have complete access to your iPod's broken screen.
- 3). Using the screwdriver, work the pin on the flat side of the screen until the screen pops off. Then attach your new screen, connecting it in the same places. Then close up your iPod, reconnecting and attaching everything you have removed. Clean components with the compressed air as necessary. Test your iPod and make sure it works, and then close the shell. The hooks should click into each other, and you will have a fully functional iPod again.
