- 1). Open iTunes. Make sure the Music tab in the left column is the active one.
- 2). Drag your MP3 to the iTunes window and drop it there.
- 3). Right-click on the MP3 you've just added to iTunes and choose "Create AAC version."
- 4). Locate the AAC version of the file with a right-click on the name of the new AAC file in iTunes. In Mac OS X, choose "Show in Finder." In Windows, choose "Show in Windows Explorer." Look for the .m4a suffix on the new AAC file. Navigate to the the file and drag it to your desktop or other convenient place.
- 5). Right-click on your AAC file. Select "Get Info" in Mac OS X or "Rename" in Windows.
- 6). Change the name of the AAC file. In Mac OS X, change the suffix of the file name from .m4a to .m4r in the "Name & Extension" field of the "Get Info" box, then close "Get Info". In Windows 7, you may change the suffix immediately after you choose "Rename" in Step 5.
- 7). Drag your renamed .m4r file and drop it onto your iTunes window. iTunes will automatically recognize the .m4r as a ring tone and move it to the ring tone section of the interface.
- 8). Sync your iPhone. iTunes will upload the ring tone to the phone.
