- 1). Park the car on a flat, level surface in a well-ventilated area away from sparks and fire hazards. Raise the right rear of the vehicle with the floor jack. Lower it onto a jack stand. You can also drive the rear of the car up onto ramps to support it.
- 2). Locate the fuel filter, which is located just ahead of the right rear wheel, next to the gas tank. The filter is a metal, cylindrical object with fuel lines coming out of it.
- 3). Place locking pliers on the two fuel lines going to the filter to squeeze the lines together and prevent fuel from coming out when the lines are removed from the filter. Place a rag between the jaws of the pliers and the line so that the line will not be damaged.
- 4). Remove the fuel lines on either side of the filter by pushing the plastic connector on the fuel line towards the fuel filter and then pressing the button on the connector down. Pull the line off of the filter. This may take a little effort, but be careful not to damage the connector. Wipe up any spilled fuel.
- 5). Remove the screw on the back of the bracket that holds the filter. Slide the filter down and then towards the back of the car to release it from the tab on the bracket.
- 6). Install the new filter in the opposite order that you removed it, sliding it forward to the front of the car and then up so that you can clip it into the tab on the filter bracket. Reinstall the screw that holds the filter to the bracket. Reinstall each fuel line by sliding it onto the filter until it clicks into place.
- 7). Remove the locking pliers from the fuel lines. Lower the car to the ground. Prime the fuel system by turning the ignition key on and off a few times without starting the engine. Start the motor and test-drive the car.
