Glengarry Glen Ross - 2012 Broadway Revival

Returning to the Broadway stage, Glengarry Glen Ross is one of David Mamet's most known and revered works. Based on personal experiences in a Chicago real estate office, the 2012 Broadway revival of Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross packs star power as well as an unflinching look at the American dream.

Glengarry Glen Ross will begin Preview performances for its limited Broadway revival run on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, with its official Opening Night set for Sunday, November 11, 2012.

This revival of David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross will play the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre located at 236 West 45th Street.

The plot of Glengarry Glen Ross focuses on a high-stakes work incentive at a fly-by-night Chicago real estate office. The employees compete for first prize, which is a new Cadillac, second prize consisting of a set of steak knives, and the third prize, which comes with nothing but getting fired. Glengarry Glen Ross hacks away at the myth of the American dream, exposing the lengths people will go in the expectation of a reward at the end of the game. The playwright himself, David Mamet, worked in a Chicago real estate office in 1969 and wrote Glengarry Glen Ross to delve into the cutthroat politics he experienced firsthand.

This Broadway revival production marks the 30th year anniversary of Mamet's play, which he wrote in 1982. The show premiered in the 1983-1984 season at the Royal National Theatre in London, and made its American debut at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre.

Following this run, the show moved to Broadway, playing at the Golden Theatre, where it ran for an impressive 378 performances.

The original Broadway run of Glengarry Glen Ross earned a 1984 Tony Award for Joe Mantegna for Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Play. The show also earned the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The 2005 Broadway revival earned a Best Featured Actor Tony for Liev Schreiber as well as the Tony for Best Revival of a Play.

The cast of Glengarry Glen Ross is led by acting legend and two-time Tony Award-winning actor Al Pacino. He won the the 1969 Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Play for Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie? and the 1977 Tony for Best Actor in a Play for his work in The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel.

Pacino is joined on stage by Murphy Guyer, who has been seen on Broadway in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, South Pacific, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, and The Graduate. The ensemble cast is rounded out by 2011 Tony Award nominee Bobby Cannavale of The Motherf**ker with the Hat, Tony nominee David Harbour who was seen in Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Tony Award nominee Jeremy Shamos of the controversial Clybourne Park, Emmy Award winner Richard Schiff of television's "The West Wing," and John C. McGinley of TV's "Scrubs."

The show features a new set design by Tony Award-winning Scenic Designer Eugene Lee who worked on A Streetcar Named Desire, The Homecoming, and Stephen Schwartz's Wicked. Costume Design is led by Tony Award-winning Costumer Jess Goldstein who designed the 2012 production of Newsies, The Rivals, and The Merchant of Venice. Lighting Design is by James F. Glengarry Glen Ross is produced on Broadway by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, Jam Theatricals, Luigi & Rose Caiola, Gutterman Chernoff. Kit Seidel/Myla Lerner, Mark S. Golub & David S. Golub, Kathleen Johnson, Harvey Weinstein, and Will Trice.
