Stress Remedies - Foods That Reduce Stress

To lead a healthy, stress-free life, you need to maintain a healthy diet.
A number of packaged foods contain agents, which cause and stimulate stress.
However, there are certain foods which can make you feel healthier and happier too! Here's a list of such foods:
  • Almonds: These crunchy nuts are full of vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin E, magnesium, and zinc and a handful of these is enough to drive your stress away.
    B vitamins and magnesium help in serotonin production, which relieves stress and regulates mood too.
    Vitamin E fights free radicals (related to stress) and helps fight the negative effects of stress.
    However, almonds are high on fat and it is recommended that you eat only a small handful.
  • Turkey: The amino acid, L-tryptophan in turkey helps trigger serotonin release too, which has a calming effect on the body.
    That explains why people who feast on turkeys feel relaxed.
  • Oranges: Vitamin C is believed to bring down stress levels and help normalize blood pressure and cortisol levels too.
    Oranges being one of the best sources of Vitamin C are a great means to beat the stress.
  • Tuna: Not just a great option for a quick lunch, tuna is also a great source of low-fat protein.
    It is high in vitamins B6 and B12, which are effective stress-combating vitamins.
    It also contains Omega 3 fatty acid and tend to have an anti-inflammatory effect.
  • Asparagus: This stress-reducing herb helps in the production of serotonin and is a great source of folic acid too.
  • Red Bell Peppers: They are great sources of vitamins A and C and folate, and increase energy and help repair the cell damage which could be caused due to stress too.
Apart from these, you can choose foods which are high in vitamin B, such as, lentils, chickpeas, quinoa, etc as they are known to have a calming effect on the body and are most likely to drive away stress or anxiety and enhance your mood considerably.
