- Grizzly Japanese chisels are designed to provide well-balanced wood chiseling. The chiseling edge is constructed of laminated steel blades with handles made of hardwood grips and solid steel ring fasteners, or ferrules. The steel blade is constructed from a metal alloy that is rated as 63 degree, +/- 2 on the Rockwell Hardness Scale for woodworking tools. The Japanese style of chisel is usually in the 60 or higher range, while most Western chisels are in the 58 to 60 range, with some as high as 62.
- The 10 models of Grizzly Japanese chisels come in blade thickness of 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch, 3/4 inch, 7/8 inch, 1 inch, 1 1/4 inches and 1 1/2 inches. All models are 9 inches long.
- As of 2011, Grizzly Japanese chisels start at $14.25 each for the four smallest blade sizes. The 7/8-inch chisel is $14.95, while the 5/8-inch and 3/4-inch chisels are $15.25 each. The 1-inch, 1 1/4-inches and 1 1/2-inches chisels are priced at $17.95, $18.95 and $21.50, respectively. The 10-peice Grizzly Japanese chisel set is priced at $142.74, or 10% off the individual price for all 10 models.
- In addition to Japanese chisels, Grizzly Industrial, Inc. also manufactures Japanese gouges, which are tools used alongside a chisel to hollow out a section of wood. Like the chisels, the gouges are 9 inches long and constructed with metal ferrules and hand-finished oak handles. Grizzly Japanese gouges can be purchased in a six-piece set or as six individual tools ranging in size from 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch, 3/4 inch to 1 inch.
