- 1). Select a window to place your air conditioning unit in. The window will need to open at least 17 inches and be between 31 and 43 inches wide.
- 2). Measure the width of your window. Transfer this measurement to a wooden 2-by-4. Use a handsaw to cut the 2-by-4 to that length. Place the cut piece on the window sill, in front of the storm window, and secure it with nails or screws.
- 3). Divide the width of the window in half to find the center, and mark this measurement with a pencil. Measure 13 3/8 inches from the center line to both the right and left side and mark with a pencil. Measure 12 3/8 inches from the center line to both the right and left side and mark with a pencil.
- 4). Attach the hardware to your sill supports. The "U" shaped spacer will go underneath, parallel to the sill support. Insert two screws through the slots of the supports and the holes of the spacer. Place a lock nut and screw up through the center hole of the spacer. Insert three more screws into the spacer notches located at one end of each spacer and the holes next to the notches.
- 5). Place one spacer on each line marked at 12 3/8 from the center with the notch pointing outside. Position the spacers so that they are flush with the outer edge of the sill and tighten the screws.
- 6). Measure from the edge of the window to the edge of the sill supports on both sides of the window. This will be the width the filler panel will need to be. Cut the filler panels off of the filler panel board.
- 7). Attach the gaskets to the 90 degree angles. Make sure the tabs on the angles are on the bottom. Place one angle on the edge of each filler panel and secure with screws. Put two spring clips on each filler panel on the side opposite the angle. The clips should be 3 inches from the top and 3 inches from the bottom. Place one filler panel on each side of the window on the edge closest to the outside, hooking the tab on the bottom into the sill supports.
- 8). Remove the air-conditioning unit from the casing. To do this, pull the grille off of the front of the unit. Unscrew the locking plate located on the front of the unit on the left side. Pull the plate off of the unit. Remove the screw on the back of the unit toward the bottom. Slide the air conditioner out of the casing.
- 9). Place the long gasket on the window sill, even with the edge closest to the inside. The gasket will go over the supports. Slide the air conditioning case onto the gasket. Make sure that it is as level as possible. The holes on the side of the casing should line up with the holes on the angles.
- 10
Close the window until it rests on the casing. Use screws to secure the casing to the angles on either side of the window. With a marker, draw a line on the case where the window touches it. Open the window and place the case gasket on the mark you just made. - 11
Put the vinyl window gasket on top of the gasket you just laid. Make sure the panel tabs on the top of the casing fit through the slots of the gasket. Cut the gasket to fit the window if needed. Close the window. - 12
Fold the vinyl window gasket up to cover the bottom sash of the window. Drill pilot holes into the sash through the holes of the panel tabs with a 1/8-inch drill bit. Secure the tabs to the sash with screws. - 13
Measure the width at the top of the closed window from glass to edge of window. Cut the window foam with a utility knife to this width and put it into the space where the glass from the top window and the top edge of the bottom window meet. - 14
Place the L-shaped window locking bracket on the right side of the window. It should rest on top of the bottom window. Secure it with two screws. Slide the air conditioner into the casing. Clamp the power cord to the base pan located on the right side of the unit. - 15
Place the locking plate back on and secure it with a screw. Push the front grille back on.
