How to Install a NuTone Bath Fan

    • 1). Take the fan housing up into your attic. Bend the tabs on the side of the housing using pliers. Lower the housing between two joists and position it so that the tabs are flat against the bottom of the joists on either side. Insert four screws, one in the lowest hole in each corner, and drill them into the joists.

    • 2). Grasp the duct connector and align it with the fan housing. The top of the duct connector should be flush with the top of the housing. Hold the damper closed and push the duct connector onto the housing until it snaps into place.

    • 3). Run 6-inch-round ductwork from the damper to the cap; the cap is located in either the wall or the roof of your home. Connect each length of ductwork to the previous length by sliding the non-crimped end over the crimped end 1 1/2 inches. Where shorter lengths of ductwork are required, cut the ductwork with your snips. Crimp one end with your pipe crimper to allow for installation into the system.

    • 4). Tape around all ductwork connections with metal tape. This prevents air from leaking out of the connections.

    • 5). Wire a power cable into the mount housing. The black wire on the cable should be attached with a wire nut to the black wire from the mount housing. The white wires connected with wire nuts and the green wires connected with wire nuts.

    • 6). Run the other end of the power cable across the floor of the attic and down the wall towards the power switch. The black wire from the power cable and the black wire from the breaker box get connected to the on/off switch.

    • 7). Connect the white wire from the power cord and the white wire from the breaker box with a wire nut. The two green ground wires should also be connected with a wire nut. Push all wiring inside the box in the wall. Screw the on/off switch onto the box.

    • 8). Attach the grille to the mount housing. The grille is the finished portion that you see below the ceiling. It is slotted to allow for air movement from your bathroom into the fan. Pinch each spring together and place it between the two hanging slots. Release the spring and push the grille up against the ceiling until it is flush.
