A 'Frankenrobot' with a biological brain
Meet Gordon, probably the world's first robot controlled exclusively by living brain tissue. Stitched together from cultured rat neurons, Gordon's primitive grey matter was designed at the University of Reading by scientists who unveiled the neuron-powered machine on Wednesday. Their groundbreaking experiments explore the vanishing boundary between natural and artificial intelligence, and could shed light on the fundamental building blocks of memory and learning, one of the lead researchers told AFP...

Synthetic telepathy = in, note passing = out
With $4 million from the US Army, scientists at UC Irvine will study synthetic telepathy, otherwise known as sending and receiving messages using your mind. The scientists believe that this amazing new form of communication could benefit stroke victims who can't speak-but also aid soldiers in the battlefield. Here's how the eggheads plan to make it work...
Review: The Extraordinary Voyages of Jules Verne
In a world of secret societies and hidden knowledge, one man struggles against an oppressive church and his inner demons to reveal the ultimate truth of human existence. It sounds like the plot of a Dan Brown novel, but this is the incredible real-life story of legendary author Jules Verne. From Philip Gardiner (Gnosis: The Secret of Solomon's Temple) comes The Extraordinary Voyages of Jules Verne--an in-depth analysis of the life and works of one of the most influential writers of modern times...
Ghosts found in Overton pub, say paranormal team
Village pub is occupied by more than just the regulars according to a Wrexham-based paranormal group.
Following a recent investigation at The White Horse in Overton, near Wrexham, paranormal investigators, Spirit Quest UK, have concluded that the pub certainly lives up to its reputation as a very haunted location...
Brad Steiger, the man behind the books
Brad and Sherry Steiger Brad Steiger is without doubt one of the finest men still living that has written more books of the paranormal than any other living author. He is a former school teacher and now a prolific writer of all things paranormal, from ghosts, UFOs, household pets, haunted houses, outer space, conspiracies, Atlantis and even a 1978 film 'Unknown Powers,' which received a Film Advisory Board Award of Excellence. He has also written about astral projection, 'The Healing Power of Love,' 'Discover your Past Lives,' 'Indian Medicine Power,' 'Kahuna Magic,' 'True Ghost Stories,' 'Mysteries of Time and Space' and 'The Rainbow Conspiracies' that are but a few among the over 160 books he has written...
Portal to mythical Mayan underworld found
Mexican archeologists have discovered a maze of stone temples in underground caves, some submerged in water and containing human bones, which ancient Mayans believed was a portal where dead souls entered the underworld. Clad in scuba gear and edging through narrow tunnels, researchers discovered the stone ruins of eleven sacred temples and what could be the remains of human sacrifices at the site in the Yucatan Peninsula...
Supercarrier had strange experience
Last week, this column took a look at the ghosts that are believed to haunt the battleship USS North Carolina. Today, we shall consider the tale of the crew of an aircraft carrier encountering a UFO while sailing through the infamous Bermuda Triangle. Sometime in 1971, the USS John F. Kennedy, one of the U.S. Navy's supercarriers, was returning to its port in Norfolk, Va. after a two-week readiness exercise in the Caribbean. The carrier and its crew were sailing through the Bermuda Triangle, that section of the Atlantic Ocean were so many ships and planes are believed to have mysteriously vanished. Since the time of Christopher Columbus, sailors and later pilots have also reported seeing weird objects in the sky while traveling through the dreaded Triangle...
Island of mystery
Dear Editor - Recently I read about giants of Solomon Islands and hidden UFO (unidentified flying objects) bases in Malaita and Guadalcanal Provinces, by Marius Boirayon, an Australian. To many people what Mr Boirayon claimed in his book and articles seems unbelievable and lack enough scientific proof. However, as one of the few Malaitans who started my research in 1979, I am happy to confirm that many of Boirayon's claims are true...
What's that sound?
The bumps in the night could be explained away. The banging of deck hatches - open and shut, open and shut - were easy to ignore. But when more than one person reported seeing a ghost-like figure toiling at the machinery on the USS Salem's bow, Michael Condon wondered if more was at play than the typical groans of an aging, Cold War-era cruiser. "I'm just going to say this: While I have not seen anything, I certainly have heard things," said Condon, the ship's executive director. Is the USS Salem haunted?..
Extraordinary creative & psychic powers of animals
Many followers of the Thunderbolts project are familiar with the revolutionary research of biologist Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, author of more than 75 scientific papers and ten books, including the internationally acclaimed "Dogs that Know When Their Owners are Coming Home." In controlled double-blind experiments, Sheldrake has found compelling evidence of "interspecies telepathy," including the uncanny (yet familiar to many pet owners) ability of dogs to anticipate when their owners are returning home...
