- 1). Assemble a foundation of medium duty fire bricks. Lay three down close to each other, then turn the fourth on its side so that the 2-1/2-inch by 9-inch section is resting against the ground, and the face of the brick is pressed tightly to the last horizontal brick.
- 2). Apply firebrick mortar to the top of the bricks with a trowel. Lay three heavy duty fire bricks on top of the medium duty foundation. This will be the floor of the forge. Turn the fourth heavy duty firebrick on its side, and press it firmly into the mortar to form the back of the forge.
- 3). Apply mortar along the 9-inch sides of the furnace floor, from the outside edge inward, approximately two inches. Turn two bricks on their sides and press them firmly into the mortar.
- 4). Apply mortar to the top of the forge sides then lay the remaining bricks over them and press firmly into the mortar to form the top of the forge.
- 5). Put on safety goggles. Use a masonry bit to drill a hole into the top brick, then install the venturi burner with the kit provided. Connect the hoses of the venturi burner to the propane tank, making sure the valve is turned off.
