Tips For Making Green Smoothies

Green smoothies are highly nutritious, and very easy to make.
Many raw foodists enjoy green smoothies first thing in the morning for breakfast, as it sustains them for the longest amount of time.
This is largely due to the fact that the smoothies are packed with so many essential nutrients that nourish the body.
Green smoothies, however, can be consumed at any time of the day, and can even serve as a complete meal.
Just remember to consume the smoothies as soon as possible, because the longer it sits, the more nutrients are lost.
The Greens Basically anything goes when it comes to green smoothies, as you can add any type of leafy green vegetables, bitter herbs, spices and any other living food.
Greens from lettuce, kale, collards, radish, beets and dandelion greens can be combined in a green smoothie.
You can also add broccoli, which is highly nutritive, however, it can give the smoothie an odd taste that may take some getting used to.
There are also many herbs that you can add, such as cilantro, parsley, mint, oregano and rosemary.
Garlic, ginger root and other spices also go great with greens.
Add Lemons and Lemon Rind Green smoothies in general are quite bitter, especially for those who are not used to them.
Lemons and lemon rind can help to remove some of the bitterness of the greens.
Therefore the more lemons you add, the more flavorful and the less bitter the smoothie will be.
The only thing with lemons, however, is that lemon rind can contain chemicals if it has been grown conventionally.
Thus, to avoid the chemicals, you should only use the rind if it is organic.
Add Sea Salt Sea salt is another ingredient that you can add to help remove the bitterness.
In addition, salt also adds to the flavor, making the smoothies more flavorful.
Add Fruits If you are just beginning with green smoothies, then you should add at least a small amount of sweet fruits until your body gets used to the bitterness of the greens.
A good rule of thumb is to go at least half and half (half fruit, and half vegetables) when first beginning.
Then as you become familiar with the bitter taste, you can gradually add more greens.
Add Nuts and Seeds Nuts and seeds are also an excellent addition to green smoothies.
Not only can they help in providing the body with more protein, but they also add a rich nutty flavor, along with some healthy oils that aid in the absorption of fat soluble vitamins.
