- 1). Clean your work surface thoroughly before starting. Fondant creates static and picks up any lint, dust or crumbs left on the work surface. Dry the surface completely after washing.
- 2). Remove a small ball of fondant from the tub. Work the fondant between both hands until it is soft and pliable. Pinch fondant at the edge. If there are no cracks, it is warmed enough for use. Add one drop of the desired color to the fondant and begin rolling it between both hands to form a snake. Fold the snake shape in half and then in half again. Repeat the process until the color is blended well. Add more color if needed, but in small amounts.
- 3). Dust the work surface lightly with cornstarch. Roll the fondant ball out until it is only 1/8 inch thick.
- 4). Use the fondant letter cutter of your choice and press it into the fondant. Shake the cutter gently back and forth to loosen it from the surrounding fondant..
- 5). Lift the cutter up and remove the letter. Set it aside or place it directly on the cake. Repeat the process for the remaining letters.
- 1). Knead a ball of pre-tinted fondant on a clean work surface until it is smooth and pliable.
- 2). Lightly dust your work surface with cornstarch, and roll the fondant using a fondant rolling pin until you've reached the desired thickness. Cut out the desired letter shape with a craft knife. Make sure that the craft knife is very sharp so that it does not tug or tear the fondant.
- 3). Remove the remaining fondant from around the sides of the letter. Lift up the letter using a spatula or cake lifter and place it on top of a cake or set aside to dry. Repeat the process until you have completed the remaining letters.
