- Always plug your dryer's power cord into an outlet before trying to start it. Select a drying cycle, and press the "Start" button to begin the cycle. If the dryer won't turn on, check that the door is completely closed. Verify that the household circuit breaker is not tripped, and reset it if necessary. Look for black fuses or fuses with broken wires, and replace these fuses. Only use a 240-volt power supply, or allow clothes up to 20-percent longer to dry on a 208-volt power supply. If the dryer is not heating, verify that the gas valve is in the "On" position if you own a gas dryer. Select a heated dry setting as opposed to "Air Fluff." Your dryer will not operate correctly in temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Always properly sort clothing to prevent uneven drying. If your clothes are taking a long time to dry, clean the lint screen, exhaust hood and exhaust vent. Look at the exhaust hood on the outside of your home. See if it can freely open, and remove any obstructions blocking it. Only use a 4-inch metal vent for your dryer, and replace any kinked or crushed vents. Remove any fabric softener sheets that may be clogging the grille. Only install the dryer in a properly ventilated room. If the drying cycle is ending early, change the dryness level setting. Do not overload the dryer, which can cause the motor to overheat. Add towels to a load that is too small.
- A rattling sound in your dryer indicates that you have loose objects such as coins and buttons. Stop the dryer and remove these objects, as they can chip or scratch the tub. If the dryer shakes, verify that it's level by using a bubble level. Install shims on the lower side to raise the dryer. Always install the leveling legs. Don't overload the dryer. If you hear a thumping sound, stop the dryer and break up the load. Your dryer may have an odor if you haven't used it in awhile or if it's new. Avoid using strong-smelling substances around your dryer if the room is not properly ventilated. These odors can enter the dryer system and transfer to your clothing.
- To prevent wrinkles, avoid overloading the dryer, and never over-dry items. Remove clothing right after the drying cycle is done. Clean the lint screen if you see lint on clothing, and properly sort lint-making items such as towels and chenille from standard clothing. Sort light and dark clothing, and always wash clothes before drying them. Use fabric softener to reduce stains and static. Close zippers and hooks to avoid damaging clothing.
