Flowers, though a lovely addition to any decor, can become rather pricey. Since many people associate red with roses, it can be difficult to get accustomed to less expensive options. But whether for a wedding, centerpiece or a gift for your significant other, there are a number of options available for inexpensive red flowers. - Perhaps the most well-known of the inexpensive flowers, carnations come in a wide variety of colors, making them appropriate for a whole host of occasions. Carnations come in three varieties of red: light red, dark red and striped red. A combination of the three can create an elegant bouquet.
- Freesias are highly perfumed, funnel-shaped flowers. Their smell is so desirable that you are likely to see freesia-scented shampoos, soaps, body washes and perfumes. Fressias are most often seen in white and yellow, although red varieties are available today.
- Chrysanthemums are one of the most popular flowers, second only to the rose. Red chrysanthemums, which denote love, have become increasingly popular since they were derived from the original yellow version. Although chrysanthemums are generally referred to as a single flower, they are actually a cluster of smaller flowers that grow very close to each other.
- The Gladiolus flower, often referred to as the Sword Lily or Corn Lily, is a tall, vibrant flower that adds an interesting element to any bouquet. Gladiolus flowers come in many different colors, but the red variety is one of the most striking of the genus. The flowers grow in long stalks with several symmetrical flower buds on each stem. Gladiolus flowers have been used for centuries to treat a variety of ailments, such as colic, and for the removal of splinters and thorns.
- Sweet William flowers are in the same family as carnations and are native to Europe. Since these flowers have adapted well to growing conditions in the United States, they are a popular choice for backyard gardens. Sweet Williams come in warm colors like pink, purple and, of course, red. These flowers are very sweetly scented, making them an excellent option for a bouquet.
