- 1). Register with your local Catholic church as a parishioner. You must be an active parishioner in order to request the baptism of your child. Active parishioners attend Mass regularly and participate in church events. You must have previously received or are in the process of receiving the sacraments in order to be a parishioner. Contact the rectory to schedule the baptismal ceremony and necessary classes.
- 2). Select two people to be godparents for the child being baptised. They must commit to helping you raise the child in the belief and teachings of the Catholic Church. Godparents must also be active registered parishioners of a parish. They both do not need to be Catholic but must be baptised Christians in order to fulfill the role of godparents.
- 3). Attend the pre-baptismal classes required by the parish. Parents and godparents are required to attend class. Children over the age of 7 seeking baptism may also be required to attend classes through the parish. Right of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) often holds classes for older children to prepare for the sacrament of baptism.
