- 1). Decide what you want your candy bar to look like. Do you want a simple, minimalist setup? Or are you having a more elaborate, fancy wedding that would require more decorative, opulent containers? Also ask yourself what sort of candy you would like to use. Most brides choose candy that coordinates with their wedding colors, to create a cohesive effect. A good idea is to choose candy in similar, though slightly varying shades to create a dramatic look. Also, the number of guests you will be having should be taken into account. The larger the wedding-guest list, the more candy and containers you will want to lay out.
- 2). Talk to the manager or in-house wedding planner at your reception venue about the different table shapes and tablecloths they have available for your candy bar. Let them know how many containers you plan to have, and find out approximately how much table space there is. Be open to any suggestions or opinions they may have, as they are the most familiar with their establishment, and know what has and has not worked stylistically at past weddings.
- 3). Order your supplies. You'll need to find wide-mouth glass jars in various sizes. They should hold at least 5 gallons, and it's not a bad idea to vary the sizes and heights to create a visually appealing display. The glass jars can be as plain or as fancy as you'd like. Chain craft stores like Michaels or Joannes are good places to look for interesting glass containers. Both stores carry a wide array of clear glass vases in a multitude of shapes and sizes. Stock up when they have sales; or you can find a discount coupon for either store in your Sunday newspaper. You'll also need to pick up several metal scoops and some type of containers for guests to put their candy in. Wax-paper bags are a simple and affordable option. For a more quirky and unique look, you can use frosted food takeout containers that resemble Chinese takeout boxes. Both types of containers are readily available online.
- 4). Have some labels professionally printed to adorn your wax paper bags or frosted takeout containers. This special touch makes your favors much more personal and elegant. Many online vendors sell such stickers, and they can be printed to your color and design specifications. Plan to order them a few months before your wedding, to allow enough time for the printing and delivery. Once they arrive, put a sticker on each wax paper bag or container.
- 5). Order your candy. Since you'll need so much, it's a good idea to order it in bulk, either from a local candy shop or online. If you're ordering online, be sure to allow a little extra time for shipping. It's best to order more than you think you'll need, so you don't run out. Of course, If you're not sure how much candy to get, it's best to speak with a representative at the candy company. She will be able to give you direction based on the number of guests you have invited and size of your glass jars. Choose whatever type of candy you like best, in whatever color or colors suit you. The day of the wedding (or the night before), ask your bridesmaids to help pour the candy into the glass jars and arrange the candy bags or frosted takeout containers on the table.
