Several Drug Treatments For Anxiety

Those suffering from anxiety usually turn to drug treatments after they find that other methods are ineffective.
Sometimes cognitive therapy or simple exercise is enough to dissipate anxiety, but in moderate to severe cases, some kind of chemical must be introduced to the body to regulate the brain and stop unnatural anxiety.
There are several types of anxiety medication.
Certain types, such as benzodiazepines, provide relief by producing a mild sedative effect.
Benzos include drugs like Xanax and Valium This does not treat the underlying cause of anxiety, and it is only a temporary solution that must be used in conjunction with other techniques.
Also, benzodiazepines have a high potential for abuse, which is another negative of them.
Many antidepressants, including those belonging to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor family, have been shown to be effective against anxiety as well as depression, as the two conditions are closely related.
Paxil and Prozac are some of the most well known SSRIs, and they work by increasing the level of serotonin in the brain by blocking its reuptake by neurotransmitters.
As an alternative treatment, you may find that medicinal cannabis works quite well.
It does not have the side effects that prescription drugs have, and empirical results show it works better than those kinds of drugs.
If you have the opportunity to use cannabis to treat your anxiety, you should at least give it a shot.
Remember, any kind of drug is not a cure all for anxiety.
Sooner or later, you are going to need to treat the root causes of your problem and do something to fix this once and for all.
