Stationary bikes, sometimes called exercise bikes, are a great way to work out. They certainly get your heart rate up and are very easy to use. They also have several benefits over other types of exercise.
One advantage is that you normally use them indoors, although I know of one gym that has some outside in the summer too. It's not always nice outside with rain, cold, snow, and even mosquitoes possibly interfering with your workout. Also since you are indoors you have more control of your surroundings. For example my wife has a small electric fan mounted on hers for a constant gentle breeze.
It's common to have one at home. For example my father does. Not only does he not have to drive to a gym, but he would also be too embarrassed to and prefers to exercise in prvate as do many folks.
It's very easy to change the level of intensity. There are no hills, either up or down, unless you want them. Varied intensity can help you get a better workout and often a longer workout as you have more control
Compared to other forms of exercise, a stationary bike is low impact. There is no constant banging on your knees and other joints, as for example if you run. And no fear or worry of cars and other vehicles on the roads.
Try biking outside or running while doing something else, for example watching TV or reading a book. You basically can't. You can very easily though on an exercise bike
I also sometimes use a stationary bike as a warmup, a good low impact way to get my body moving and blood flowing before m oving on to other exercise.
