Red Wristbands

• Red wristbands are used to represent HIV/AIDS awareness, heart disease, living drug free and alcohol awareness. Often the wristbands contain phrases. For example, heart disease wristbands contain phrases such as "love your heart."

• Green wristbands represent environmental causes and contain messages related to saving the environment. The crisis in Darfur is represented by green wristbands which contain the message "Save Darfur."

  Cyclist Lance Armstrong started the wristband craze with his yellow wristband to support testicular cancer research with the message "Livestrong." Pink is another color of wristband related to cancer, particularly breast cancer.

  Many wristbands represent a school or team. Wristbands are created in school or team colors and sold as part of fundraisers. They are inexpensive and can make a lot of money for a club or team.

  Beyond the messages, colored wristbands have become fashion statements, particularly with teenagers. These rubber bracelets have appeared in a variety of color combinations, including tie-dye. Many teens wear multicolored wristbands at once.
