- 1). Cut power to the existing light at the house fuse box.
- 2). Remove the old light fixture by taking out the screws securing it to the ceiling. Disconnect the wires behind it, leaving an electrical box and three wires--white, black and bare copper.
- 3). Set the fan's mounting bracket up to the exposed electrical box. Line up the bracket with the screw holes and hook up the bracket with the screws that came with it.
- 4). Connect the copper ground wire from the electrical box around the green grounding screw on the mounting bracket. Tighten up the screw.
- 5). Assemble the fan on the floor, except for the blades. Bring the unit up the ladder and hold it near the electrical box. Connect the white wire from the fan to the white wire from the box, using a wire nut. Make the connection by holding the two wires next to each other and twisting the nut around both of them at once. Do the same for the black wires.
- 6). Hold the fan unit up to the bracket, tucking the wires into the electrical box. Set the unit to the bracket with the accompanying screws.
- 7). Restore the electricity at the fuse box. Use the wall switch to test the fan motor. If it works, install the fan blades as instructed.
