- 1). Open Remote Desktop on your computer. Go to "Start," select "All Programs," choose "Accessories" and choose "Remote Desktop Connection." Depending on your operating system, you may need to choose "Connections" after "Accessories."
- 2). Enter the computer name or IP address of the remote computer. Press "Connect."
- 3). Enter a network username and password. Either use an administrator password or the password you typically use to access the remote computer. For instance, if you log on to your desktop by using your last name and a password, you can use this combination to access the same computer remotely.
- 4). Press "Options" to change settings related to how the remote desktop displays, such as screensavers, audio and desktop background. This step is optional.
- 5). Press "OK" to connect.
- 6). Open any files you need as if you were sitting at the remote computer. Other users connecting remotely to your computer can access and print these files as well.
