- 1). Raise the hood of the car and find the fuse panel located on the driver's side. Remove the fuse responsible for the fuel pump. Start the vehicle and allow it to idle until the motor stalls out. This will clear the fuel lines so you can safely access the fuel system.
- 2). Locate the fuel filter under the rear of the vehicle behind the fuel tank. Drop the fuel tank to gain access to the fuel filter. Place your floor jack under the center of the fuel tank in preparation for lowering the fuel tank.
- 3). Remove both metal straps using your socket and wrench, while holding the fuel tank in place. Use the floor jack to lower the fuel tank. There is no need to remove any other connection to the fuel tank as you are only lowering it about 16 inches until it rests at ground level on the floor jack.
- 4). Use your socket and wrench to remove the metal arm that secures the fuel filter. Remove both fuel lines from the filter and then disconnect the old filter. Install the new fuel filter and reattach the fuel lines. Use your socket and wrench to replace the metal arm over the new fuel filter.
- 5). Using the floor jack, reinstall the fuel tank in its usual position and reinstall the metal straps that secure the tank. Once the fuel tank is secured, reinstall the fuel pump fuse and close the hood. Start the vehicle now to allow fuel to flow through the fuel system.
