- 1). Get a referral. Ask your friends, coworkers and neighbors with kids for recommendations. If they haven't have hired a clown, they may have seen one perform recently at a party, and can put you in touch with the host. If you don't have friends with young kids, call a local church or youth group to see if they can refer you to someone they use to entertain at their functions.
- 2). Call up local party companies in your area. Look up party planners or party services in your phone book or locally on line. An established party company for clowns and other entertainers generally vet performers before allowing them to work, and they may even offer a service guarantee.
- 3). Check online for a private clown. There are several online directories of clowns for hire nationwide, with listings in every state. Some may have individual websites with photos and testimonials from past clients. Contact those you interested in and find out what services they offer for your budget.
