- 1). Ready a clean, flat workspace in a quiet, well-lit room where you can size your metal wristband without disturbances or distractions. Pad the hard work surface with a potholder or neoprene mousepad to prevent the watch from sustaining scuffs or scratches during the wristband sizing process. Remove the band holder from the watch repair tool kit and place it at the center of the potholder or mousepad.
- 2). Turn the watch so that the back of the wristband faces you. Note the small arrows engraved on the back of the band's removable links. Orient the watch so that the arrows point downward and place the wristband into the band holder.
- 3). Examine the top edge of the metal wristband and note the pins positioned between the removable links. Place the pin pusher tool above the pin to the left of the first removable link that you plan to remove. Tap the pin pusher tool with a small watchmaker's hammer until it falls into the band holder below. Use the same process to remove the pin to the right of the last link you want to remove; the entire segment of unwanted links will come free.
- 4). Remove the watch from the band holder and reorient it so that the engraved arrows point towards the ceiling. Place the wristband back into the band holder.
- 5). Push the two end wristband links together tightly; insert one of the removed pins between them. Tap the end of the pin with the watchmaker's hammer until it is flush with the edge of the wristband.
