- 1). Call the consumer help line of the company that made the semi-permanent hair color you wish to remove. Since different companies use a different variety of chemicals, most companies will be able to provide you with information on how to remove their specific brand of semi-permanent hair color.
- 2). Rinse your hair thoroughly with very hot water. The hot water will assist your hair in releasing the color molecules, which will cause the color to fade more quickly.
- 3). Wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo, which is designed to help fade color. This type of shampoo can be found at a department store or drug store, or you can check with your hair stylist.
- 4). Use hair products, whether shampoos or gels, that increase your hair's volume. The process of increasing hair volume also opens up hair cuticles, which helps with releasing unwanted color.
- 5). Use a semi-permanent hair color remover. This product can also be found in a department store, drug store or through your stylist. Make sure you use a product that's made to remove semi-permanent, not permanent color. Otherwise, you risk removing your hair's natural color, as well.
- 6). Warm up extra-virgin olive oil on the stove and run it through your hair. As long as it's not so hot that it will burn your skin, olive oil can help get rid of the chemical element in your semi-permanent hair color.
