- 1). Park your car and disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. Locate the cigarette lighter inside the car. Generally these tend to be at the bottom of the center stack of the dashboard.
- 2). Use a soft pry tool to gently pry the cigarette lighter out of its mounting location. A soft pry tool is used to remove interior panels without scratching plastic. Gently pull the lighter assembly out and away from the dash.
- 3). Remove the positive and negative plugs that are connected to the car's wiring on the back of the lighter. Specific design varies by manufacturer. Gently remove these plugs, making sure to pull on the metal contact plug and not on the wiring.
- 4). Use a small flathead screwdriver to disconnect a two-pin connector that is installed in some car cigarette lighters as opposed to plugs.
- 5). Connect the car wiring harness to the new cigarette plug, then slide the cigarette lighter assembly into the stock location. Reconnect the battery, start the car, and test the assembly either by engaging the heat element or plugging a device into the port.
